The ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ reboot has an official title: Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and ahead of the release of the revival this fall, series star Selena Gomez (who’ll be returning as Alex Russo) shared a sneak peek of the series

During the ABC and Disney Upfronts event at the Javits Center in New York City, Gomez (also the show’s executive producer) shared how “excited” she was for the upcoming project, saying: “Sometimes, something magical happens when you do get to go home again.” Disney dropped the first photos from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which sees Gomez alongside her TV sibling David Henrie (reprising his role as Justin Russo) holding their wands up, hinting at a return to their magical roots.  A second image showed the duo with other leads from the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, and Max Matenko.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will be released 12 years after the original Disney Channel series wrapped its four-season run. According to an official synopsis, the show follow Justin, “who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo.” However, Justin’s plans for normalcy are put into jeopardy when Alex brings Billie (LeAnn Brown) to him for help with magical training, and “Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities—and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year.
