HS Basketball: Murray High’s Tigers downed Carlisle County 78-57 with the Lady Tigers also collecting a win over Carlisle County 49-37. Murray’s teams will begin play in the 4th district tournaments next week.
College Baseball: The Murray State Racers open the 2023 season today in the first of a three game series at North Florida. First pitch is at 5:05 this afternoon. The series continues with a 1 pm game tomorrow and a 12 noon contest on Sunday.
College Softball: Murray State meets Kennesaw State at 11 am this morning and Troy University at 5 pm in the first day of the Trojan Classic at Troy today. The Racers will face the same two teams tomorrow afternoon.
MLB: Former baseball player and broadcaster Tim McCarver is dead at the age of 81. He played 21 seasons in the majors and won two World Series titles with the St. Louis Cardinals. McCarver played for the Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. The catcher was a two-time MLB All-Star and retired from the game in 1980. He would go on to serve as the lead analyst for 23 World Series broadcasts.
