The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for our area until noon today. Showers and thunderstorms will be moving through the area and some are capable of becoming severe with heavy rains, wind gusts and the possibility of a tornado.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Wednesday a portion of I-69 in Lyon County will be repaired due to pavement problems. According to a news release, left northbound lanes between mile markers 75 and 77 between Eddyville and Princeton could be closed for several days while the materials to make the repair is obtained.
A Kentucky lawmaker is trying to fix the commonwealth’s teacher shortage. Republican Representative James Tipton yesterday filed a bill which would allow licensed educators from other states to move to Kentucky and be eligible for an equivalent license. The teacher shortage has been a top priority in Frankfort during the recent legislative session, after Governor Andy Beshear recently revealed Kentucky has eleven-thousand teacher vacancies.
It’s spring fire season in Kentucky. The season began yesterday and marks the time when it is illegal to have burns outdoors during the day near woods or brush line to help prevent forest fires. The Division of Forestry has recommended not burning anything between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Officials say any necessary fires should be made where there is no debris around in open space. Spring forest fire season runs through the end of April.
