Netflix released the trailer for “Simone Biles: Rising” and shared that the four-part docuseries will begin streaming July 17, nine days before the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympic Games. Biles posted the teaser trailer on X, along with the caption: “can’t wait for y’all to see 👀✨🤍🎬

‘Rising’ offers a look at Biles’ career after withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after a case of “the twisties”(causing her to lose her sense of where she was in the air). Biles was expected to win multiple gold medals in Tokyo, including a second consecutive all-around title that would cement her GOAT status. But after mental health issues that worsened because of the isolating COVID restrictions, she withdrew from most of the competition.

The docuseries focuses on how she worked through her mental health struggles, and got back on track.   As Biles says in the 2-minute trailer: “I get to write my own ending.” Rio teammate Aly Raisman, who remains close with Biles, is also featured in the docuseries, and shared: “I know that she’s expected to win all the gold medals, but even the fact she’s trying to come back is really amazing.”

Biles, 27, just qualified for her spot on the U.S. Women’s Olympic gymnastics team after the final night of the Olympic trials on Sunday in Minneapolis, and told reporters at a press conference: “I think everybody probably looks at the team as, ‘OK, they went to Tokyo and this, this and this happened, and what are they going to do here in Paris?’ But for us, I know we’re stronger than what we showed in Tokyo. So, I think it has to be for us because it can’t be for anybody else, because that’s not why we do it. We do it for ourselves and the love for the sport and the love for representing the U.S. So, we’re gonna go out there and we’re gonna do our best … This is definitely our redemption tour. I feel like we all have more to give.”  Biles will be joined by Olympic teammates Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles (with whom she was part of the 2020 team) as well as newcomer Hezly Rivera.

All four episodes will stream on Netflix on the same day, July 17. Take a look at the trailer for ‘Simone Biles: Rising’ – here.
