In the KHSAA Girls Soccer tournament Marshall falls to Henderson 3-1.

On the Boys side of the tournament McCracken loses to Butler 3-2 to end their season as well.

Both Racers Hoops Teams picked 3rd in preseason OVC Ranking

The Racers have been picked to finish 3rd in the OVC by the leagues coaches, and sports information directors, Murray State has one of the top duos in the league in fourth-year players Tevin Brown and KJ Williams, who have each earned first-team All-OVC honors each of the past two years.   Head coach Matt McMahon has eight additional players back from last year and welcomes five newcomers, including transfer guard Carter Collins (Davidson) and Trae Hannibal (South Carolina).


The Murray State women’s basketball team was also picked to finish third in the OVC this season in the annual vote of the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors, the league announced Tuesday. In addition, Macey Turley and Katelyn Young were named to the Preseason All-OVC team.

The third-place finish in the poll marks the highest for the Racers since being picked second prior to the 2008-09 season. That season was also the last time MSU received any first-place votes in the poll until Tuesday, when they received three.

Murray State Athletics Partners With INFLCR

Murray State Athletics has announced a new partnership with INFLCR (pronounced influencer) to provide Racer student-athletes the best platform to assist them in their name, image and likeness (NIL) experience. Using tools provided by INFLCR, Murray State student-athletes will learn the processes of maximizing their NIL potential, while maintaining NCAA compliance.

“Murray State Athletics is fortunate to partner with INFLCR, an industry leader in the NIL space,” said Murray State Director of Athletics, Kevin Saal. “Our athletics department is keenly focused on providing a first-class student-athlete experience with abundant integrity.  This strategic partnership with INFLCR will assist our department administratively and aid student-athletes in maximizing their NIL opportunities now, and well into the future.”

INFLCR is a content-creation platform that assists Racer student-athletes in the monetization and dissemination of photos, videos and graphics. INFLCR also educates student-athletes in areas related to personal marketing and branding.

All Murray State sports teams will use INFLCR including: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football; men’s and women’s golf; rifle, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball.

Preds Edge Kings For First Win

(Nashville, TN)  —  The Predators won their first game of the season as they beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in Nashville.  Matt Duchene and Tanner Jeannot scored in the third period to help the Predators avoid an oh-and-3 start to the season.  Juuse Saros had a great outing with 25 saves on 26 shots.  Anze Kopitar put the Kings on top in the second period with his league-leading fifth goal of the season.

Grizzlies Open Season Tonight

(Memphis, TN)  —  Grizzlies basketball is back!  Memphis hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers in its season-opener tonight.  The team had no players listed on the injury report heading into the opener.  The Grizzlies finished 38-and-34 last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Utah Jazz.

Tubby Smith Jersey To Be Retired At Rupp Arena

(Lexington, KY)  —  Former University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach Orlando “Tubby” Smith is having his jersey retired at Rupp Arena.  The ceremony will be held on December 31st when his High Point team visits Lexington.  Smith coached the Wildcats from 1997 through 2007.  He led the team to a national title in his first season at Kentucky and was the NABC National Coach of the Year in 2003.

Dodgers Strike Back, Beat Braves In Game Three

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  The Dodgers are striking back in the NLCS.  Los Angeles plated four runs in the eighth inning in a comeback to beat the Braves 6-5 in Game Three.  Cody Bellinger again came up in the clutch as he tied the game at 5-all with his three-run homer in the eighth.  Mookie Betts followed that up with an RBI double to put the Dodgers ahead.  Los Angeles now trails the series 2-1.  Game Four is tonight.

Astros Score Seven In Ninth To Take Game Four

(Boston, MA)  —  The Astros evened the ALCS at two games apiece after a win in Game Four.  Houston scored seven times with two outs in the ninth inning to escape Fenway Park with a 9-2 win over the Red Sox.  Jose Altuve hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning and Michael Brantley broke the game open with a bases clearing double in the ninth.  Game Five is this afternoon.

Bucks Raise Banner, Beat Nets

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  The Bucks are raising a championship banner and earning a win on opening night.  Giannis Antetokounmpo [[ ah-dedo-KOON-boh ]] scored 32 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and dished out seven assists as Milwaukee beat the Nets 127-104 at home.  Khris Middleton added 20 in the win for the Bucks. Kevin Durant scored 32 points in the setback for the Nets.  Patty Mills added 21 off the bench for Brooklyn.

Warriors Beat Lakers In Season Opener

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  Steph Curry recorded his eighth career triple double as he led the Warriors past the Lakers 121-114 in Los Angeles.  Curry scored 21 points, dished out 10 assists and collected 10 rebounds in the opening night of NBA basketball.  LeBron James scored 34 points and Anthony Davis had 33 for Los Angeles.  Russell Westbrook struggled in his Lakers debut, tallying eight points on 4-for-13 shooting from the floor.

76ers Ben Simmons Suspended One Game For Conduct Detrimental To Team

(Camden, NJ)  —  Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons won’t play in the team’s season opener.  He has been suspended one game for conduct detrimental to the team after he was thrown out of practice Tuesday.  Head Coach Doc Rivers said he believed Simmons was being a distraction.  Simmons has been seeking a trade from the 76ers, but just recently returned as the regular season approached.

Cowboys Safety Damontae Kazee Accused Of DWI

(The Colony, TX)  —  Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee is out on bond after being accused of DWI.  The Colony police say Kazee was arrested early Tuesday morning after failing a sobriety test and committing a traffic violation.  The 28-year-old is also accused of telling the officer he had been drinking.  Kazee has started all six games for Dallas this season.  Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told players to be careful while they’re on their bye week.

Mayfield Wants To Play Despite Shoulder Injury

(Berea, OH)  —  Baker Mayfield wants to keep playing despite his lingering shoulder injury.  The Cleveland Browns quarterback is dealing with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, which he aggravated on Sunday.  ESPN reports the Browns are hoping Mayfield can avoid season-ending surgery as they await word from Tuesday’s MRI scan.  Mayfield says he’s preparing to play the Denver Broncos at home on Thursday night.

Pistons’ Cunningham Ruled Out Of Season Opener

(Detroit, MI)  —  NBA fans will have to wait to see Cade Cunningham in action.  The Pistons ruled out Cunningham for their season opener against the Chicago Bulls with a right ankle sprain.  The guard has been dealing with the injury through the preseason and the medical staff is being cautious with his return.  Detroit drafted Cunningham out of Oklahoma State with the number one pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

Ravens Left Tackle Ronnie Stanley Out For Season

(Owings Mills, MD)  —  Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley’s season is over early for the second year in a row.  Stanley has been placed on injured reserve as the All-Pro offensive lineman undergoes season-ending ankle surgery.  Stanley suffered the injury last November just days after the sixth-year pro signed a five-year, 98.75-million-dollar extension with Baltimore.

Marvin Bagley Told He’s Out Of Kings Opening Night Rotation

(Sacramento, CA)  —  The former second overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft appears to be losing his role with the Sacramento Kings.  Marvin Bagley’s agent Jeff Schwartz released a statement on Tuesday that the forward was told he is not in the team’s opening night rotation.  Schwartz added thats “It’s clear they have no plans for him in the future”.  ESPN reports Bagley has wanted a trade out of Sacramento since last year.

NBA 75th Anniversary Team First 25 Names Released

(Undated)  —  The NBA is releasing the first 25 names on its 75th Anniversary team.  The likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo [[ ah-dedo-KOON-boh ]], Kevin Durant, Bill Russell, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar highlighted the first 25.  Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Charles Barkley, and Steve Nash were also among the first 25 players in.  The list will comprise three nights with a new 25 added each night to total 75 players.
