No Change of Venue in Lawsuit against Rams/NFL
(St. Louis, MO) — A St. Louis judge is rejecting a bid by the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL to move next year’s trial over the team’s 2016 move out of St. Louis. In denying the league’s motion for a change of venue yesterday, St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Christopher McGraugh said there’s no evidence that possible city jurors have an inherent bias. A lawsuit filed in 2017 claims the NFL violated its own relocation rules by allowing the Rams to leave St. Louis. A trial date is set for January 2022.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Cardinals and Reds play a doubleheader today at Great American Ball Park after last night’s game was postponed due to rain. St. Louis will have right-hander Milos Mikolas start game one against Cincinnati’s Wade Miley. J.A. Happ takes the mound for the Cards in game two, opposing Sonny Gray. Malcolm Butler Placed On Reserve/Retired List
(Glendale, AZ) — The Arizona Cardinals are placing cornerback Malcolm Butler on the reserve/retired list as the 31-year-old deals with a “personal situation.” Butler signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals back in March and had been practicing and playing through the preseason with no indication that he was planning to quit. Butler signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2014 before spending the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Butler is best known for his game-saving interception of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson during the closing seconds of Super Bowl XLIX.
New England Patriots Release QB Cam Newton
(Foxborough, MA) — The New England Patriots are releasing three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Cam Newton. He signed a one year, five-million-dollar contract with the Patriots in March after spending last season with the team as well. Newton rushed for 12 touchdowns and threw for 2,657 yards in his lone season with the franchise. New England is rolling with Mac Jones as its new starting QB. The Patriots selected him in the first round of this year’s draft.
Deshaun Watson Included On Texans’ 53-Man Roster
(Houston, TX) — The Houston Texans are not parting ways with Deshaun Watson just yet. The quarterback was included on Houston’s 53-man roster as the team trimmed down its active roster ahead of the 2021 season. ESPN reports Watson will likely be a healthy scratch on game days should be remain with the Texans this season. The quarterback is still facing allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior in 22 active civil lawsuits. Watson will continue to earn his 10.5-million dollar salary as long as he is on the roster. Houston kept QB’s Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills, in addition to Watson.
Meyer Says Vaccination Status Was A Factor In Cuts
(Jacksonville, FL) — If you want to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it’s going to help if you’ve been vaccinated for COVID-19. Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday that he and GM Trent Baalke considered a player’s vaccination status when finalizing the roster. Meyer said one of the reasons they considered that is because of the rigorous testing for unvaccinated players. Meyer said that Jacksonville educated players about the vaccine and encouraged them to get it, but did not mandate that players have to get it.
Flores Calls Tagovailoa “Our Quarterback” Amid Trade Rumors
(Miami, FL) — Brian Flores is reiterating to the Miami Dolphins that Tua Tagovailoa is their man under center. Flores told players in a team meeting that Tagovailoa is “our quarterback” as rumors have swirled around the team possibly trading for Deshaun Watson. Tagovailoa took over as the Dolphins’ starting QB last season and the team has made it clear he will remain in that role in 2021. Flores told reporters earlier this week that the team wants players with “high character” when discussing roster decisions.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Simmons has informed the organization that he would like a trade. The superstar reportedly says he won’t be reporting for training camp. The 76ers have been working on a Simmons trade but have yet to find one to their liking this offseason. Simmons received plenty of criticism following the team’s exit against the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA playoffs.

Both Javy Baez and Francisco Lindor said their “thumbs-down” celebration after getting hits was intended to keep the team close and focused. This follows Baez’ comments on Sunday in which he said the “thumbs-down” was a boo towards the fans and their criticisms. It’s been a rough second half of the year for the Mets who were in first place for months but now trail both the Phillies and Braves.
Trevor Bauer Could Face Discipline From MLB
(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer could be facing a long-term absence from the sport. ESPN reports Bauer could be facing discipline from the MLB, regardless if he’s charged with a crime by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. Bauer is facing allegations that he sexually assaulted a California woman and was under a three-month investigation by the Pasadena Police Department. Under the league’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy, Bauer could be facing a suspension of at least 1-to-2 years. Bauer was placed on administrative leave on July 2nd and could remain away from the Dodgers for the remainder of the season.

Ohio State QB Ewers Gets 1.4 Million NIL Deal
(Columbus, OH) — Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers is becoming a very rich man, and he hasn’t played a snap in college yet. ESPN is reporting that Buckeye freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers has signed a name, image and likeness deal with GT Sports Marketing for 1-point-4 million dollars. The contract with GT Sports Marketing is for autographs and it goes for three years. This is Ewers’ third NIL deal. Ewers was widely regarded as the top high school prospect in the 2021 class coming out of Southlake Carroll and was previously committed to play for the Longhorns but decommitted in October of 2020 and eventually chose Ohio State.
