TAYLOR NAMED OVC MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor has been selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Year in voting by the league’s athletics directors and communications directors. Taylor capped off a fantastic career as one of five players in OVC history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career. Taylor earned his second-straight OVC Player of the Year honor after averaging 21.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, making him the only player nationally to rank in the Top 10 in both categories. Taylor also was named first-team All-OVC for the fourth-straight season, making him only the third player in league history to achieve that feat.

CARDINALS FALL TO REDS
Jesse Winker’s go-ahead two-run homer in the second inning lifted the Reds to a 4-2 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright got the loss after giving up three runs over seven frames. Tyler O’Neill and Yadier Molina plated runs for St. Louis, which has dropped four of five. Game 2 of the series airs tonight at 6:20 on Classic Hits WNBS AM and FM.

SUNS, PAYNE ELIMINATE LAKERS BEHIND BOOKER’S HUGE NIGHT
The Suns are on to the Western Conference Semi-Finals after defeating the Lakers in Game Six last night 113-100. Devin Booker led the team with a double-double, scoring a game-high 47 points and 11 rebounds. Former Racer Cam Payne added 7 points and a team high 3 blocked shots. The Suns now prepare to host the Denver Nuggets on Monday night for Game One of the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

The Vols play Wright State and Vandy will go up against Presbyterian.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Devin Booker scored 47 points as the Suns eliminated the defending NBA Champion Lakers 113-100 in Los Angeles. It’s the first time in the storied career of LeBron James that he has been eliminated in the first round. The Nuggets also punched their ticket to the second round with a 126-115 victory over the Trail Blazers in Portland. Denver will meet Phoenix in the second round. Tonight, the Mavericks will look to advance when they host the Clippers for Game Six.

Jordan Staal scored 5:57 into overtime as the Hurricanes beat the Lightning 3-2 in Tampa. Carolina still trails in the series two-games-to-one. Meanwhile, in New York, Brad Marchand scored 3:36 into overtime as the Bruins beat the Islanders 2-1 in Uniondale. Boston takes a two-games-to-one lead in their series. Tonight, Montreal will look to extend their lead to two-games-to-none as they take on the Jets in Winnipeg, while the Golden Knights look to put their mark on the series as they return home to Las Vegas to take on the Avalanche.

Jets forward Mark Scheifele is being suspended four games for his hit on Canadiens forward Jake Evans in Game One of the second round. The scary hit came right after Evans scored to give Montreal a 5-3 victory. The hit left him motionless on the ice before he was eventually stretchered off. Scheifele was assessed a five-minute major for charging and a game-misconduct for the hit. The earliest he could return to action is Game Six.

Johnny Football was more like Johnny Hancock during his time at Texas A&M. Johnny Manziel is telling the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast he made more than 30-thousand dollars selling autographs while in college. While the former quarterback joked the N-C-A-A could take away his “9-and-4 season” and his Chick-fil-A Bowl win, he insisted he never took money before he won the Heisman Trophy.

At the time, the New Jersey Generals majority owner was former President Trump. Games will air on FOX Sports.

Collin Morikawa has a one-shot lead after the first round at the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio. The 2020 PGA Championship winner shot a 66 Thursday to shoot to the top of the leaderboard at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Adam Long is hot on his heels, however, one stroke back at five-under.
