SEARCH CONTINUES FOR ESCAPED INMATE
The Kentucky State Police are searching for a Calloway County inmate who left a work release program in Graves County. Around 7:15 Monday morning, 39-year old Brian Ferryman of Calvert City reportedly walked away from the candle factory in Mayfield, where he had been placed on work release. Ferryman is described as a white male, standing 6’3″, and weighing approximately 320 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Ferryman was incarcerated in the Calloway County Jail for Theft of an Automobile and Receiving Stolen Property. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Ferryman are asked to contact Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 or anonymously through the KSP app.
TIDWELL RETIRING FROM CCSD
Sergeant Charles Tidwell of the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office is retiring. Tidwell began his lifetime of service in the United States Army in 1992 and 4 years later began serving as a Calloway County Deputy Jailer. In 2003, he was hired as a Calloway County Deputy Sheriff and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2008. In 2011, Tidwell responded to a residential fire on McElrath Road in northern Calloway County and was the first responder on scene. After hearing someone calling for help inside, he broke a window, entered the burning house, and rescued the resident. Tidwell has served the citizens of Calloway County for over 25 years, so the Sheriff’s Office invites you to join them in congratulating him on his retirement.
HAYDEN GRADUATES FROM DOCJT
Calloway County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jon Hayden graduated from Kentucky’s Department of Criminal Justice Training last week and was selected by DOCJT’s physical fitness instructors to receive the “Most Improved Award for Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics”. Deputy Hayden was also recognized with DOCJT’s “Physical Fitness Excellence Award.” Hayden is a native of Graves County and graduated from Mayfield High School. He was first employed by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office as a Court Security Officer in 2019 and the following year he was transferred to a Deputy Sheriff assignment.
CALLOWAY COVID UPDATE
The Calloway County Health Department reported 3 new cases of COVID-19 for Thursday and Friday, bringing the county total during the pandemic to 3,517. Of that total, 3,454 have recoved, 14 are islolated at home, and none are hospitalized. There have been 49 deaths, but none reported for 2 months. As of yesterday, 33.7% of Calloway County residents have been fully vaccinated including 68.7% of those 65 and older. Calloway County’s COVID-19 positivity rate as of Monday was 1.06%, which is lower than Thursday’s rate of 1.12%.
KENTUCKY COVID UPDATE
At Monday’s COVID-19 update for Kentucky, 383 new cases and 6 new deaths were reported, raising the total to 6,782 Kentuckians who are listed as Covid deaths. As of Monday, there have been over 6.62 million coronavirus tests performed in Kentucky with a positivity rate of 2.49%, which is lower than last Monday’s rate of 2.61%. There are 326 Kentuckians hospitalized which is 17 less than last Monday, including 93 in ICU, which is 8 less than one week ago. At least 52,778 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus. As of Monday, 2,038,886 Kentuckians have been vaccinated for a 46% total, including 81% of those 65 and older.
WANTED MAN ARRESTED IN MAYFIELD
This past weekend, Graves County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted to locate 24-year-old Gabriel Vejar, who was wanted on charges of wanton endangerment, failure to appear on several traffic offenses, as well as a federal warrant from the U.S. Marshall’s Office. Vejar was located by deputies Saturday morning inside a home on South 11th Street and was taken into custody. He was lodged in the McCracken County jail.

FRANKFORT—Governor Andy Beshear was among those paying tribute to fallen veterans on this Memorial Day. In Frankfort yesterday, the Kentucky National Guard honored fallen soldiers and added a World War One soldier’s name to the National Guard Memorial at the Boone National Guard Center. The governor asked Kentuckians to take a moment and pause as an act of national unity to demonstrate gratitude and respect for the heroes and their sacrifices.
FRANKFORT—Secretary of State Michael Adams announced last week that Kentucky’s voter registration numbers have begun to stabilize. After several consecutive months of more voters being removed from the voter rolls than added, in April Kentucky saw a net gain of 82 voters. While 5,009 new registrations were logged, 4,927 registrations were canceled, with 3,396 of those deceased voters, 1,076 voters who voluntarily de-registered, and 455 felony convicts.
LAUREL COUNTY—A man convicted in a Kentucky homicide, then pardoned by former Governor Matt Bevin, is back in jail. U.S. Marshals arrested Patrick Baker yesterday morning and he’s being held on federal charges. More details on charges are expected to be released today. He was convicted of reckless homicide in 2017 in the death of Donald Mills, then served two years of his 19 year sentence before being released.
TENNESSEE—Tennessee is celebrating 225 years of statehood. Tennessee became a state on June 1st 1796. Governor Bill Lee says the state will hold a year-long celebration called “Untold Tennessee” with events scheduled in all 95 counties. Governor Lee says he hopes Tennesseans will attend to share their untold stories of places, events and Tennesseans, who he called “the portrait of perseverance, character and hope.”
TENNESSEE—Dolly Parton is helping Tennessee celebrate 225 years of statehood. In a video released by Governor Bill Lee last week, Dolly sings a track from her 1973 album, My Tennessee Mountain Home. The track plays while the video shows the state’s main streets, landmarks and natural scenery. Dolly grew up in Sevier County within the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
TENNESSEE—Tennessee musicians are participating in a new national tradition. They played Taps yesterday afternoon on Memorial Day. The tradition started last year when many Memorial Day celebrations were canceled over coronavirus concerns. Horn players across Tennessee say they hope to make this an annual tradition long after the coronavirus outbreak is over.
ILLINOIS—A bill to make Juneteenth a state holiday awaits Governor J.B. Pritzker’s signature. This comes after state lawmakers passed the legislation over the weekend. Juneteenth, which falls on June 19th, marks the anniversary in 1865 when Black people in Texas learned they were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.
