RACERS-EAGLES SUSPENDED BY RAIN AFTER 9
At the OVC Baseball Tournament last night in Jackson, Tennessee, Jordan Cozart smashed a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give Murray State the lead, but closer Connor Holden couldn’t shut the door as the second-seeded Racers and third seeded Morehead State played to a 6-6 until the game was suspended after 9 innings due to thunderstorms in the area. Up 6-5 with two out and nobody on in the top of the ninth, the Eagles loaded the bases before scoring the tying run on a hit by pitch. Cozart also added a two-run homer in the fifth after an RBI single in the third, ending the night 3 for 4 with 5 RBI’s. Jake Slunder added 3 hits for the Racers. The game will resume today at 11 am.
In the afternoon game, top-seeded Southeast Missouri outslugged Austin Peay 11-8. Wade Stauss went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs, a double, walk and three RBIs to send the Redhawks into this morning’s winner’s bracket game, while the Governors face the Morehead-Murray loser in an elimination game this afternoon.
VOLS WIN, VANDY LOSES AT SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
At the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, Tennessee won a 12-2 elimination game against Mississippi State to advance to the fourth round. In the late game, Vanderbilt fell top seeded Arkansas by a score of 6-4 . Vandy will face Ole Miss tonight, with Tennessee playing Alabama in the afternoon game. In the other games yesterday, Ole Miss blanked Georgia 4-0, and Florida downed Alabama 7-2.
LOUISVILLE ELIMINATED IN ACC TOURNAMENT
Louisville baseball was eliminated from the ACC Championship after losing an extra-innings thriller to Georgia Tech, 9-8, in the final game of pool play. The Cardinals finish the year at 28-and-22 and will wait to find out their N-C-A-A tournament fate on Monday.
TIGERS AND LAKERS FALL IN REGULAR SEASON FINALES
In high school baseball last night, Blake Elder homered and tossed three innings of hitless relief to lead Carlisle County to a 2-0 home win over Calloway County. Isaac Ward had a double and Jackson Chapman had a single for the the Lakers only hits. Cadwell Turner took the loss, despite giving up only 1 run on 3 hits over 3 innings, walking 1, and striking out 5 as Calloway ended the regular season with a record of 16-15 heading into Monday’s fourth district tournament championship game at 4.
Lyon County built a 5-0 lead after three innings and held off a Murray High rally for an 8-4 win in Eddyville. The Tigers closed the gap to 5-4 with a run in the top of the 5th, but the pushed across three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the win. Carson Tucker, Kade Gibson, and Reese Wilson had RBI’s for the Tigers who ended the season at 16-16 heading into Saturday’s 4 pm Fourth District Tournament elimination game with Marshall County at Laker Field. MURRAY SOFTBALL ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN
In high school softball last night, Kylie Chapman tossed a complete game 3-hitter, walking none and striking out nine as Murray High blanked Paducah Tilghman 4-0 in Paducah. Mackenzie Turley had 2 hits and Aiden Farr drove in two runs as Murray closed out the regular season with a record of 14-8 heading into Saturday’s 2 pm against Calloway County in the opening round of the Fourth District Tournament at Laker Field. MURRAY DUO DO NOT ADVANCE IN FLORIDA
Murray State’s Jabreuna Brimlett and Kenia Seals participated last night in the NCAA East Preliminaries at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Brimlett finished 35th in a field of 48 with a time of 13.57 in the 100m Hurdles. Seals finished 40th out of 48th with a time of 11.66 in the 100m Dash. Neither Racer qualified for the quarterfinals.
CARDINALS EDGE SNAKES
Yadier Molina’s 10th inning RBI double lifted the Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks in Phoenix. A two-run blast from Tyler O’Neill in the second and a Nolan Arenado RBI double in the fifth helped St. Louis jump out to a 4-0 lead. Carlos Martinez gave up three earned runs and recorded six strikeouts in six innings. Alex Reyes earned the win and Daniel Ponce de Leon pitched a scoreless 10th for the save. Airtime for game 2 of the 4 game series is set for 7:45 this evening on WNBS AM and FM.
AREA MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
In the minors, the Louisville Bats captured their first win of the series with a 5-4 victoory over the Toledo Mud Hens. The Memphis Redbirds were crushed by the Gwinnett Stripers, 14-2, marking their fourth straight loss. Nashville blanked Columbus 11-0.
PREDS LOSE IN OVERTIME
In the fourth straight overtime game of the series, the Nashville Predators lost to the Hurricanes, 4-3, and were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It is the third straight season the Preds have not made it out of at least the first round.
GRIZZLIES RETURN HOME SATURDAY
The Grizzlies return home tomorrow to host game three of their first-round playoff series against the top-seeded Jazz. Both teams won a game in Salt Lake City, swinging momentum in Memphis’ favor as three of the five remaining games, if necessary, would be played at FedEx Forum. Three Jazz fans were banned indefinitely from attending Utah home games after making inappropriate comments to Ja Morant’s family during Wednesday’s game two.
MORANT’S FATHER SPEAKS OUT ABOUT RACIST TAUNTING
The father of Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant is speaking out after he was a victim of vulgar and racist remarks during Wednesday’s game in Utah. Tee Morant tells ESPN that three fans that were banned indefinitely by the Jazz took the heckling too far. Ja Morant posted on Twitter about the incidents Thursday, adding his family “felt the love” from the rest of the Jazz fans around them, and it was just three fans who took things too far. The Jazz issued a statement saying they have zero tolerance for offensive or disruptive behavior, and banned all three fans indefinitely.
TITANS CONCLUDE WEEK 1 OTA’S
The Titans wrapped up week one of organized team activities yesterday. A-J Brown, Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill are among the notables not present at the voluntary workouts. Coach Mike Vrabel says some of the missing veterans have attended the virtual meetings despite not being with the team. Next week’s activities begin on Tuesday.

Anthony Davis scored 34 points as the Lakers rolled over the Suns 109-95 at home in Game Three to take a 2-1 series lead. The Bucks dismantled the Heat 113-84 in Miami. Milwaukee takes a 3-0 series lead and is one win away from advancing to the second round. The Nuggets took a 2-1 series lead with a 120-115 win at the Trail Blazers. Tonight, the Knicks visit the Hawks for Game Three, the Celtics host the Nets for Game Three, and the Clippers are in Dallas for the third game of their series.
The fan who dumped popcorn on NBA player Russell Westbrook is facing some serious consequences. The Philadelphia 76ers announced the fan’s season ticket will be revoked right away and he will not be allowed into any event at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. In New York, the Knicks say they have banned a fan indefinitely from Madison Square Garden who spit on Trae Young. Atlanta Hawks guard has opted not to press charges at this point. Carolina’s Sebastian Aho scored 1:16 into overtime to lift the Hurricanes over the Predators 4-3 in Nashville. The win propels the ‘Canes to a four-games-to-two series win. Meanwhile, Nick Suzuki scored 59 seconds into overtime for the Canadiens as they staved off elimination, beating the Maple Leafs 4-3 in Toronto. The Leafs still lead the best-of-seven series three-games-to-two. Tonight, it will be Game Seven between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada.
Tiger Woods is talking about his recovery from a car crash that left him badly injured. The accident happened in the Los Angeles area in February, leaving Woods with significant leg injuries. Woods told Golf Digest his rehab hasn’t been easy as he explained, “this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.” Woods said his top goal is walking under his own power. Tiger also noted the amount of support he’s gotten from those in the golf world and folks outside it. He said it meant a lot to him.
Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is stuck in rush hour. The pitching and outfielder sensation, along with the rest of his teammates, had an issue making it to their game on the road against the Athletics on Thursday. An accident on the Bay Bridge as well as issues with BART made things difficult for the team to arrive to the stadium. As a result of Ohtani not having enough time to prepare for his start, the Angels opted to push his start back to this evening.
NASCAR is in it for the long haul on Sunday. The Cup Series will head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600. Brad Keselowski won last year’s event amid the ongoing coronavirus. Martin Truex Jr. won the event in 2019. Chase Elliott is looking to build off the momentum of his first victory of the season this past week at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
