RACER SOCCER STAYS UNBEATEN WITH WIN OVER GOVS
Marti Floyd’s goal in the 27th minute on a cross from Rebecca Kubin was all Murray State would need for a 1-0 win over Austin Peay in a Battle of the Border rivalry match at Cutchin Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Villacres made three saves to earn her first shutout of the campaign, while the Racer defense held Austin Peay to just eight total shots on the day in improving to 5-0 on the season. The Racers will return to action at 3 pm Friday at Jacksonville State.

RACER BASEBALL OVERPOWERS UK
Brock Anderson blasted two homers and drove in five runs to lead Murray State past Kentucky 13-8 yesterday in Lexington. The Racers improved to 8-8 by beating the 11-3 Wildcats for the first time since 2014. The Racer bats hammered a UK pitching staff that was ranked fourth-ranked nationally with a 1.99 ERA. The Racer pitching staff used five arms in the game with Jake Jones earning the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. The Racers are back in action Friday and Saturday with a three game series against Jacksonville State at Reagan Field.

MEMPHIS EDGES RACER SOFTBALL
Memphis pushed across a run in the top of the eighth to pull out a 3-2 win over Murray State in softball yesterday at Racer Field. Sierra Gilmore led the Racers with her third home run of the season. The 7-14 Racers begin a 3 game series at SIUE on Saturday.

RACER MEN PLACE 8TH AT TENNESSEE EVENT
The Murray State men’s golf team placed eighth with an 878 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tennessee, finishing with a 296. Morehead State and UT Martin tied for the title each with a score of 851. Morehead State won the first place trophy on the second hole of the ensuing playoff. MSU’s Avery Edwards led the Racers with a spot in 19th place at 217.

SAMUTA RECEIVES OVC WEEKLY HONOR
Murray State’s Eric Samuta is OVC Football’s Defensive Player of the Week. In Sunday’s win over Tennessee Tech, Samuta had a 75 yard first quarter interception return for a touchdown, and finished the game with seven tackles, including three solo and 1.5 tackles for loss. Also on Tuesday, the Racers came in at 24th in the first AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 poll of the season. The Racers are ranked 25th in the STATS poll which was released on Monday.

RACER JUNIORS RECEIVE ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
Murray State juniors Tevin Brown and KJ Williams have been named to the NABC All-District Team. Williams scored 15.3 points per game and grabbed 8.4 rebounds per outing. Williams had seven double doubles this season and had a career-high scoring game twice this season, with 26 points at Southeast Missouri and 28 at SIUE. Brown scored 14.7 points per game and was first in the league with 2.8 made 3-pointers per game. Brown was a;sp in the top-10 in rebounding at 5.9 per game and was seventh in assists with 111. The District 18 Coach of the Year is Preston Spradlin of Morehead State

REGION 1 TOURNAMENT TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets for each game in the Region 1 basketball tournament will be made available to the public the morning of each game. All tickets can be purchased through Murray High School’s GoFan Page. All tickets will be $7.00 plus an additional $1 for GoFan service charge. All games will be played at Murray State’s CFSB Center. Each night gates will open 45 minutes before game time. All seating will be designated by the schools that are participating. After each game the arena will be cleared for sanitization. A ticket must be purchased for each game. Masks and social distancing are required for the entirety of the tournament.

CARDS VS ASTROS ON THE AIR TONIGHT
The Cardinals visit the Astros this evening. Adam Wainwright takes the mound for St. Louis. Bryan Abreu gets the start for Houston. Airtime is set for 4:55 this evening on WNBS.

GRIZZLIES VS HEAT TONIGHT
The Memphis Grizzlies will attempt to end a three-game slide tonight when they host the Miami Heat. It will be the opener of a four-game homestand that includes two against Golden State and one against Boston. Memphis is 17-and-19.

TITANS MAKE MOVES
The Tennessee Titans are moving on from cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and starting right tackle Dennis Kelly. Jackson was set to make over 10 million dollars this season, while Kelly’s release freed up about 3.4-million in cap space. Tennessee signed veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who was released by the Saints. Jenkins has 26 career picks and was a Pro Bowler in 2016 with the Giants.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
The Nashville Predators will face the Panthers tomorrow night and Saturday at Florida. The St. Louis Blues look to end a four-game losing streak tonight against the Kings in LA.

TENNESSEE TITLE GAMES MOVED TO CHATTANOOGA
The 2021 and 2022 Tennessee high school football championship games will be played in Chattanooga. The Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association made the announcement yesterday. The games will be played at Finley Stadium, which is also home to the UT-Chattanooga football team. The games had been played at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville since 2009.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Bears are bringing in veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. ESPN reports the Bears have reached a one-year, 10-million dollar deal with the former Bengals signal-caller. It comes after they made a push for Russell Wilson, but were told by the Seahawks he’s not available.

Around the NFL, Washington has reportedly agreed to terms with cornerback William Jackson the Third, the Texans have agreed to a one-year deal with quarterback Tyrod Taylor and the Giants locked up defensive lineman Leonard Williams with a three-year contract extension.

Richard Pitino is heading west. Multiple outlets report Pitino has been hired as the new men’s basketball coach at New Mexico. The move comes less than 24 hours after he was fired by Minnesota. Pitino replaces Paul Weir, who was let go last month in his fourth year.

The Utah Utes are moving on from men’s basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak. He was fired on Tuesday after a 10-year run in Salt Lake City. The Utes finished 12-and-13 this season and missed out on a NCAA Tournament berth for the fifth straight year.

While all eyes will be on the NCAA Tournament later this week, the NIT begins tonight in Texas. The 16-team field features two first-round games each of the next four days. Tonight, Toledo takes on Richmond in Denton, Texas, and Saint Mary’s faces Western Kentucky in Frisco.
