Paul Thorn is rolling into Murray on October 16th for the next installment of Lovett Live!
If you are familiar with his previous work, especially the 2010 album Pimps And Preachers, you know he has mastered the ability to craft a great story. If you are familiar with Paul’s life story, you know he has plenty of source material to reference. I’m not going to spoil the surprises for you… but William Faulkner or Tennessee Williams would have had a field day with Paul as a protagonist.
I’m a big fan of Paul and have had the opportunity to see him perform in the past. I’ve never seen him perform an acoustic show, so I’m especially pumped about the October Lovett Live! So, as I’m listening to the new album, What The Hell Is Goin’ On? and preparing questions for the interview segment of our broadcast, there is one question I have to ask Paul……
Why would an amazing and gifted songwriter like you choose to release an album that is nothing but COVER SONGS?
There can only be one answer…. because Paul Thorn is an amazing and gifted songwriter.
Paul’s own songs have very raw and exposed edges that reflect the experiences and people that taught him to live life. This collection of songs reflects the influences that taught him to write about that life in his music.
Rick Danko, Buddy and Julie Miller, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lindsey Buckingham, Allen Toussaint and Paul Rodgers are some of the names that get the nod from Thorn. These are the songs and artists that get Paul Thorn excited… and he wants to get you excited right along with him.
Check out this video for the title track of the new album, featuring the legendary Elvin Bishop…. And we will see you at Lovett Live! Tickets are on sale now. --Davey Croakett
